ITINERARY - 8 DAYS · 7 NIGHTS
Day 1 — Transfer from Medan / airport to Bukit Lawang (4 hours drive). Night at guest house in Bukit Lawang.
Day 2 — 1 day jungle trek. Start at 9am and return to the village by rafting mid afternoon. Around 6 hours trek with regular breaks. Night at guest house in Bukit Lawang.
Day 3 — Day trip to elephants in Tangkahan (2 hours drive each way). Start from Bukit Lawang at around 10am, arrive in Tangkahan for lunch. Bath elephants in the river at 3.30pm. Return to Bukit Lawang late afternoon. Night at guest house in Bukit Lawang.
Day 4 — Transfer from Bukit Lawang to Berastagi (around 4 hours drive). Explore town and market. Night at guest house in Berastagi.
Day 5 — Volcano trek with guide in the morning and transfer to Lake Toba in the afternoon. Take ferry to Samosir island (45 minutes). Night at hotel in Lake Toba.
Day 6+7 — Enjoy Lake Toba, free days. Nights at hotel in Lake Toba.
Day 8 — Transfer from Lake Toba to Medan / airport (around 4.5 hours drive). Take ferry from your accommodation and get picked up by your driver at the ferry terminal. END.
OPTIONAL
Extend your jungle trek to 2 days / 1 night with camping in the rainforest: + 50 EUR / person.
Spend the night at a guest house in Tangkahan on Day 3 instead of returning to Bukit Lawang. Drive from Tangkahan to Berastagi on Day 4: + 16 EUR / person.
Half day visit of Samosir island (Batak villages, viewpoint) by car: + 28 euros / person. Note: This is not a guided tour but your driver will take you to the main points of interests.
